I like winter. But the darkness and cold takes a toll after a few months.
After a busy December with tight deadlines, hosting Christmas and hosting friends, both of us needed a break. Preferably away from the darkness and cold for as less as we could manage. T's mom was also going through a rough patch so I suggested that she should join us as well. And so we set off to Tenerife.
We ended up in Los gigantes (Acantilados de Los Gigantes) because of the Airbnb apartment we found. While it was a long drive away from the airport (TFN), it turned out to be a really nice place to call home for the days that followed. The views of the cliffs were amazing as were the dark lava beaches. While it was still mid January, the weather and the water was still warm enough to be comfortable.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by Tenerife. Flying in, I expected it to be a touristy island with exaggerated attractions. But as we set off, I knew that it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to, with some of the best views of the coast and the sea that I have ever seen. Touristy? Yes. But for a reason.
